Five days after Milton, fewer than 5,000 customers in Central Florida are still without power

ORLANDO, Fla. – Most Central Florida residents who lost power during Hurricane Milton got it back right after the storm or over the weekend, with fewer than 5,000 Central Florida utility customers still in the dark as of Monday.

According to poweroutage.us, which collects data from utilities nationwide, only 4,790 of the more than 1.3 million customers remain without power in Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties, with the lion's share in Orange and Lake.

Tens of thousands of customers turned their lights back on over the weekend. As of Saturday afternoon, 77,355 customers in Orange, Lake, Osceola and Seminole counties were still without power. Last Friday, around 200,000 customers in the four-county area were waiting for their power to be restored.

The region's largest utilities, Orlando Utilities Commission and Duke Energy, said last week they would restore power to most customers by the end of Sunday, and it appears they have kept that promise.

Still, 369,502 utility customers remained without power across the state as of Monday, down from a peak of more than 3.5 million, according to poweroutage.us. Most of the customers still waiting are on the Gulf Coast between Tampa Bay and Sarasota. Duke Energy said in a news release Monday that it has reduced the number of its Florida customers without power from 1 million to about 105,000.

According to poweroutage.us, OUC only had 11 Orange County customers left in the dark as of Monday afternoon.
