After the Dallas Cowboys fell to 3-3 with a 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, there was reportedly speculation that head coach Mike McCarthy could be in danger of being replaced by a coaching legend.

According to Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, “Many around the league are wondering whether Dallas could become the primary landing spot for former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick this offseason.”

Schultz added that “multiple sources” said Belichick had a “really great” relationship with the Jones family.

Belichick will spend the 2024 season as an analyst for multiple networks. He surprisingly wasn't hired last offseason after parting ways with the Patriots following his 23-year tenure.

McCarthy has coached the Cowboys since 2020. Despite success in the regular season with three straight 12-5 finishes, the team struggled to perform well in the playoffs and never made it past the divisional round. Last season, Dallas suffered an embarrassing 32-48 loss to the seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium.

Including the playoff loss, the Cowboys have now lost four straight home games. The team previously had the second-longest home winning streak in franchise history at 16 games.

“I’m not the type of guy to hit the panic button,” quarterback Dak Prescott said after the loss. “You never prepare for it or think that it can happen again like it did today, here at home. Now we’ve lost three at home, a place we were great at.”

Dallas will have a bye in Week 7 before returning to action on October 27th Football on Sunday evenings Showdown against the San Francisco 49ers. If the Cowboys don't turn things around quickly, McCarthy could lose his job before his contract expires at the end of the season.
