The former Pittsburgh Steelers champion calls out Aaron Rodgers

Ryan Clark, a former safety and Super Bowl champion for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has excoriated quarterback Aaron Rodgers for his previous lack of success with the New York Jets.

Clark, who is now an NFL analyst for ESPN, explained on Stand up that Rodgers doesn't deserve to have his name mentioned alongside other legends at the position like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning because he has yet to prove himself at the end of his career.

“The Aaron Rodgers we knew was in a fantasy land and a figment of our imagination,” Clark said. “The Aaron Rodgers we mention with the names Tom Brady and Peyton Manning was a catfish.”

Rodgers was traded to the Jets in April 2023 after spending 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, where he won four MVP Awards and Super Bowl XLV, which he coincidentally played against the Steelers during the 2010 season.

The future Hall of Famer played just four snaps last season before suffering a season-ending Achilles tendon injury. At 40 years old, Rodgers has led the Jets to a 2-3 record this year, throwing for 1,093 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions.

New York fired head coach Robert Saleh earlier this week and also removed offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who worked with Rodgers in Green Bay, from officiating the game.

These moves have no positive impact on the Jets or Rodgers himself, considering this season was promised to catapult the team into contention and help them break a 13-year playoff drought, their longest series in the league.

Clark further expanded on the comparison of Rodgers to Brady and Manning, as they moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos, respectively, at the end of their own careers and immediately set the rest of the organization up for what Rodgers has not yet accomplished.

“The spirit, reverence, attention to detail and respect of these organizations were immediately enhanced with the addition of these two quarterbacks,” Clark said. “This is not what happened in New York.”

There is still time for Rodgers to live up to expectations and turn things around in New York, but the current outlook is certainly not positive.
