Man arrested on gun charges near Trump rally 'deeply admires' ex-president | Donald Trump

A man arrested on gun charges near a Donald Trump rally in California on Saturday, raising significant security concerns, said he was a big supporter of the former US president and would never harm him.

“Yes, I am 100% a Trump supporter,” the man, Vem Miller, said in an interview with Fox News Digital. Miller, 49, disputed the local sheriff's claim that he brought weapons to Trump's event to kill him.

“This is a man I deeply admire,” the Las Vegas resident also said. He claimed to be a registered Republican and to be “all-in” with the Republican presidential nominee since 2018.

Miller was unable to get to Trump. Law enforcement agencies — including the Riverside, California, Sheriff's Office, Secret Service and the U.S. attorney in Los Angeles — said Trump was not in danger.

While authorities said Trump was safe, the incident came in the wake of two assassination attempts, further stoking fears for his safety. During a news conference Sunday, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco claimed, “I truly believe we prevented another assassination attempt,” further stoking concerns.

Miller was arrested at a checkpoint about a half-mile from the entrance to Trump's campaign stop in the Coachella Valley, just before it was set to begin. Authorities alleged Miller was in possession of a loaded shotgun and handgun, as well as a high-capacity magazine.

According to KTLA, Miller was arrested before Trump arrived at the scene. According to police records, he was released from jail shortly after his arrest on $5,000 bail.

Bianco said Miller attracted the attention of law enforcement after he managed to gain access to the first area near Trump's campaign stop. Bianco cited visual “irregularities,” pointing out that Miller’s SUV was unregistered and “obviously” had a fake license plate.

A sheriff's deputy “eventually found multiple passports with multiple names and multiple driver's licenses with different names,” Fox 5 News quoted Bianco as saying.

Bianco claimed that Miller, who ran for the Nevada Legislature two years ago, was a “sovereign citizen.” Sovereign citizens do not believe they have to abide by government laws without consent, and this movement is considered extremist and right-wing.

Miller told Fox News Digital that he owned firearms because of death threats through his website America Happens Network. “I don’t know anything about guns. I’m more than a newbie,” he said. The website claims it wants to combat censorship and “rage against the mainstream media.”

“I always travel around with my firearms in the back of my truck,” Miller said, still emphasizing, “I have literally never shot a gun in my life.”

Miller also criticized Bianco's claim that he belongs to the “sovereign citizen” movement, saying, “I don't believe there is such a thing.”

“The government is an inanimate object, it is the individuals within the government that matter, so no, I am not a part of it,” he reportedly said.

“These allegations are complete nonsense,” Miller told the Press-Enterprise. “I am an artist, I am the last person who would cause violence and harm to anyone.”

Miller also released his own video “due to the false information currently being released by police,” and said his website is focused on protecting press freedom and freedom of expression.

“While we are currently and have been loyal supporters of President Donald Trump for nearly eight years, we do not align ourselves with any political party except one that supports our freedoms … and eliminates the tyranny of corrupt politicians,” he said.

“We care deeply about President Donald Trump because he is one of the few people I have seen who has the courage to actually stand up to the tyranny against us, the people,” Miller continued, referring refers to the preamble of the USA Constitution.
