Nick Sirianni argues with the home fans after the Eagles beat the Browns

Philadelphia sports fans are known for getting under the opposing team's skin. But it's not often that they do it to the home team.

However, that may have been the case in the Eagles' 20-16 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Coming into the game following their bye week, the Eagles were 8-point favorites against a Browns team that had struggled offensively all season. However, questionable play calling at the end of the first half preceded a blocked field goal that the Browns returned for a touchdown to tie the score at halftime.

Philly fans were predictably unhappy as the teams headed to the locker room. And amid the cascade of boos came cries of “Fire Nick!”

The Eagles finally put the game back in order when a 45-yard touchdown reception by DeVonta Smith gave them the winning lead midway through the fourth quarter. But as the team eked out victory, Sirianni turned around and heard a murmur from some fans behind the team bench.

When reporters asked him about his outburst after the game, Sirianni downplayed its significance.

“When I'm active and having fun, I think it affects the rest of the football team,” he said. “If I want the boys to party after big performances, then I should probably do it myself, right?”

The win improved the Eagles' record to 3-2, a half game behind the Washington Commanders in the NFC East standings.

While his post-game antics drew criticism from both local and national media, Sirianni claimed it was just good-natured give-and-take with the city's historically demanding fans.

“It was just fun,” he said. “We thrive in the crowd when they cheer us on. We hear them when they boo. We don't necessarily like that. I don't think this is productive for anyone. When they cheer us on and when we get them rolling – we love it.”
