Nick Sirianni explains how animated he was on the sideline during the Eagles' Week 6 win

Pressure on Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has increased in recent weeks as the team has had few answers to the long list of problems it needed to fix. While the offense once again started slowly against the Browns, the defense played great and the offense finally got its act together enough to score points.

There's no shortage of emotion in a close game like Sunday's, and fans let the team know early on that they were paying attention – even though it shouldn't have been a surprise. Sirianni was asked if he was booed after the game and he stated that he didn't really like it but was happy about the cheers they got.

SIRIANNI: “Yes, we thrive on the crowd when they cheer us on. That's all I'll say. When our audience cheers us on, we thrive on them. You know, we hear them when they boo. We don't necessarily like it. I don't think this is productive for anyone.

When they cheer us on and we get them going, we love it.”

As the team headed to the locker room for halftime, chants of “Fire Sirianni” could be heard, and after the final whistle, Sirianni had some of his own words for some Eagles fans in the audience. When asked about his interaction with the fans after the game, he said that he was looking forward to the win and how hard it is to win in this league.

SIRIANNI: “I’m just looking forward to the win, yeah. It's hard to win in this league, so we're happy with the win. Our fans made a few false starts that really helped us win this football game.

But I’m just happy about the win and appreciate the Linc’s support.”

It didn't exactly seem like a friendly kind of thank-you interaction, but the head coach was noticeably more animated this week than he was before the bye. Sirianni explained that he had fun on Sunday.

SIRIANNI: “I had fun and got some kind of feedback from the guys saying, 'We need you back, Nick.' We need your energy. We need your focus.' I got this from a few players.

If I'm active and having fun, I think that affects the rest of the football team. If I want the guys to party and be themselves after big performances, then I should probably do that myself, right?

Jalen Hurts didn't see Sirianni speaking to fans after the game, but admitted he encouraged the head coach to be himself, and he is. The quarterback explained a little about why he was among those encouraging Sirianni to get back in shape.

Hurts: “It's just a confirmation that we trust you. We trust where you are as a coach and we know we can build together with you. So it's about doing it together. It's about doing it together, you know. And I think for him, I think for any leader, it's about a vision and trust in that vision. He's done a really good job of having conversations and honestly trying to plan things out, you know, and some things take time. But it is a collective effort by everyone and everyone has to dominate their box. Everyone has to respect their role, accept it and do their best. I’m excited for him and his development and continue to be excited to see where he goes and I think it will continue to help our football team.”

While the head coach also went back and forth with a few Browns players, Sirianni explained that it was all a lot of fun and he understands that there is a time and a place for this type of lively interaction.

SIRIANNI: “There are times for it and times for it not to be. I must have wisdom and judgment about when to do this and when not to do this. I went back and forth between 21 and 0. I think (Greg) Newsom and Denzel Ward are phenomenal football players.

(…)

Rodney (McLeod) is the other guy. I love Rodney. Man, Rodney means a lot to me. I think back to how Rodney spoke to our football team – I think I said something this week about how Rodney said something in 2021. I have so much for Rodney McLeod, so much respect and gratitude for him. He talked to me, I answered him.

It was just fun.”

Sirianni's antics on the sideline have been celebrated and criticized during his tenure in Philly, but for the most part they are born out of pure passion that Eagles fans can respect. If he's an unfiltered version of himself helping the team turn things around, then let the man go as long as he's not punished for it, and he can channel that energy into stringing together a handful (or more) of wins.
