Sam Hartman is once again a Washington Commander, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, signing to the organization's practice squad after clearing waivers. The Commanders released the rookie quarterback on Thursday.

Shortly after the NFL Draft, Hartman signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent. However, in a move that showed how much Washington liked him, they gave him one of the largest deals among undrafted players, with a $20,000 signing bonus and a $225,000 base salary guarantee. He joined a quarterback room with a first-round pick Jayden Daniels, Marcus MariotaAnd Jeff Driskel.

With Daniels emerging as a difference-making quarterback from the start, Washington has now opted to reduce the active roster to three quarterbacks, but has now managed to keep Hartman in the organization.

Over the course of his six-season college career, Hartman emerged as one of the most prolific passers in NCAA history. He managed a staggering 15,656 yards. He also threw 134 touchdowns and 49 interceptions.

Hartman spent his first five seasons at Wachwaldwhere he did significant damage underneath in the QB-friendly Demon Deacon scheme Dave Clawson before the transfer Notre Dame for his final season. With Wake Forest, Hartman led an 11-3 season in 2021 and an 8-5 season in 2022, excellent campaigns by program standards.

He finished his career with the Demon Deacons as one of the best passers in school history, breaking several records along the way. Hartman is the school's all-time leading passer (12,967 career passing yards), more than 3,000 yards ahead of the second player on this list (Riley Skinner-9,762 yards). Additionally, Hartman had two seasons ranking first and second on Wake Forest's single-season passing yards list. He threw for 4,228 yards in 2021 and 3,701 yards in 2022.
