Timberwolves and Karl-Anthony Towns meet again, this time at his new workplace

NEW YORK – New Knick Karl-Anthony Towns held the signed jersey given to him by Anthony Edwards after the Knicks' 115-110 preseason win over the Timberwolves and talked about the “wild” day he had just two Weeks after a trade to his former team, Towns ended his nine-year tenure in Minnesota.

“There were a lot of emotions,” Towns said. “Some amazing moments and times in nine years of my life in Minnesota, a place I have called home. Guys who to me are not just teammates, but brothers. We were like brothers. It was definitely a wild day coming to work.”

Towns spent part of Saturday with Edwards, and Edwards told him he better get Towns' jersey after the game. The two also swapped sneakers and posed for a photo with big smiles on their faces.

There has always been a good relationship between Towns and Edwards, even as Edwards became the organization's top priority in recent seasons, filling a spot Towns had held since the team selected him No. 1 overall in 2015. Their relationship never faltered, even in the face of outside chatter that could have driven other teammates apart.

“It was special. He’s a special person,” Towns said. “I think the feeling is mutual. It just meant a lot to see him. Since Day 1, all I wanted was for him to perform well and reach and exceed his potential in the NBA. Seeing the path he takes makes me proud.”

Edwards said, “I told him I don't care who you've already told me you're giving your jersey to, I have to have it.” He just moved everyone else out of the way and gave me the jersey. I appreciate him.”

Edwards said playing against Towns, even in a preseason game, was one of the “best feelings” he's ever had on an NBA court. Towns, who finished the game with 16 points and 16 rebounds, also had a blast. He pointed at Edwards after he hit a three-pointer over him in the second half.

“I told him yesterday I would do it,” Towns said.
