Locals in the NFL: Tyler Allgeier pushes the Falcons past the Panthers, Clark Phillips completes the victory

AROUND THE SHIELD – Atlanta Falcons cornerback AJ Terrell picked up his first interception in three years in the Falcons' 38-20 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Clark Phillips III had a chance at his first career pick six with an interception of his own on Sunday, but the former University of Utah cornerback opted for a pass — or, more accurately, a knee.

Former BYU running back Tyler Allgeier ran for 105 yards and a touchdown, and Phillips' interception with 1:55 left helped seal an 18-point win over the Panthers and improve the season's mark to 4-2.

When Phillips pulled down the pick, he had nothing but green grass all the way to the end zone. But the former Utah star knew the moment and slid inside the 5-yard line to give the Falcons a chance to run out the clock.

“He’s smart,” Terrell said of Phillips. “I told him, I didn’t even think about it. As soon as I get the ball, you get a free touchdown. But this is definitely a heads-up play for him to lie down and let the offense go back down the field and finish the game.

Allgeier and running back Bijan Robinson combined for 200 yards and three touchdowns, becoming the first Falcons duo to each gain over 100 yards from scrimmage since Michael Vick and Jerious Norwood did so in October 2006.

“(We) just kept hitting, hitting, hitting,” Allgeier said after the game, “and we slowly started to fight them off.”

Here's a look at how other former Utah high school and college football stars performed in Week 6 of the 2024 NFL regular season.
