Decisions on reopening schools in Tampa Bay have been postponed until Monday

Families in Tampa Bay will have to wait a little longer to find out when their children will go back to school.

The districts had already announced that they would not hold classes on Monday. Now, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas leaders say they would notify families and employees of Tuesday's status by noon Monday. This gives them enough time to determine whether the schools have power and to make necessary repairs.

“We are still evaluating schools and are dealing with rising water at some locations,” Pasco Superintendent Kurt Browning said. “We probably still have a dozen schools without power and trying to deal with impossible roads to get kids to school.”

Hillsborough spokeswoman Tanya Arja said much of Monday was spent clearing debris from the district's campuses.

As they work to resume normal operations, Pinellas and Hillsborough counties on Sunday closed shelters that were operating at schools. Pasco closed its last remaining school shelter on Saturday.

Every county still has emergency shelters in non-school locations.

Districts will post reopening information on their websites and social media pages.
