Giants HC Brian Daboll on RB Tyrone Tracy Jr.'s breakout game against the Seahawks: “That's what we expect”

Tracy, who played wide receiver for the first four years of his college career, showed good vision in the backfield and the strength to make arm tackles. According to Next Gen Stats, he posted higher-than-expected rushing yards of more than 47 yards on Sunday, the most by a Giants back since Saquon Barkley's plus-48 in Week 11, 2023.

Eric Gray took the initial snaps out of the backfield, but after a fumble at the goal line on the first drive, it was mostly Tracy the rest of the way (Gray took one carry for the duration of the contest).

“I think for each of these guys that have played and maybe haven't had as much playing time, it's their job to go out there, compete and play at a high level,” Daboll said. “And that’s what we expect. I think we talked last week leading up to the game about having a next man up mentality when certain people can't play. So again, we'll do what we have to do this week. But yeah, he had a nice game.

The question is whether Tracy's performance has earned him more carries even if Singletary returns.

“I think we just look day by day, week by week, what we do and what the game plan is for the opponent we're going to play against,” Daboll said. “But we expect all of our players to be ready and perform when their number is called.”

If Tracy performs like he did on Sunday – generating positive yards and keeping Big Blue on good downs and distance – Daboll will undoubtedly call the rookie's number more often, regardless of whether Singletary is healthy.
