A Las Vegas man who was arrested Saturday at a security checkpoint near Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's rally in California has been released from custody and faces two charges.

Vem Miller, 49, was driving a black SUV and was stopped by officers assigned to monitor the rally in the Coachella Valley, east of Los Angeles. According to Riverside County Sheriff's Office records, Miller was charged with possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a large capacity magazine.

He was released Saturday on $5,000 bail, according to office records. Conditions of his bail were not immediately available.

The sheriff's office said Saturday the incident “had no impact on the safety of former President Trump or those attending the event.” Miller was arrested around 5:00 p.m. local time and Trump took the stage at 5:37 p.m.

The U.S. Attorney's Office, the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI confirmed in a statement Sunday that “President Trump was not in danger.”

“While no federal arrest has been made at this time, the investigation remains ongoing,” the statement said.

Miller told the Southern California News Group on Sunday that he was “shocked” by law enforcement's allegations that he may have tried to harm Trump.

“I'm an artist, I'm the last person who would cause violence and harm to anyone,” he said, according to the Outley.

The former president narrowly survived an assassination attempt in July when a gunman's bullet grazed his ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In September, another man was charged with attempting to assassinate Trump after Secret Service agents discovered him hiding with a rifle near Trump's golf course in Palm Beach. He pleaded not guilty.
