Jets 2-1 Blackhawks (Oct. 11, 2024) Game Recap

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Mark Scheifele scored the game-winning goal with 1:04 left in regulation and scored the game-winning goal 38 seconds into overtime to give the Winnipeg Jets a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 25 shots to help Winnipeg win its home opener on two nights and improve its season record to 2-0.

Ryan Donato scored a goal for Chicago late in the second period and Arvid Soderblom finished with 34 saves. The Blackhawks are 0-1-1.

Takeaways

Jets: After defeating the Western Conference champion Edmonton Oilers 6-0 in their season opener on Wednesday, they were thwarted until the end by Soberblom and a stifling Chicago defense.

Blackhawks: After shutting down the Jets for most of three periods, they were overwhelmed in the final minutes of regulation and OT.

Key moment

Since Hellebuyck was used in favor of an additional attacker, Scheifele equalized the score at 1-1 with a backhand shot from his knee after the rebound of a shot from Nikolai Ehlers.

Key statistics

The Jets defeated Chicago 36-25, with both goalies making a number of key saves on dangerous shots. Soberblom had no chance on either goal.

Next

The Jets will continue their four-game home series when they host Minnesota on Sunday, while the Blackhawks will continue their four-game road trip in Edmonton on Saturday.
