Seattle Seahawks forward Geno Smith looks to build on strong rushing game

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has never been much of a rusher, but he had a small chance to showcase his skills in Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

With Seattle's running backs limited in options, Smith was the team's leading rusher with 72 yards and just four carries. This surpassed his previous career high of 50 rushing yards, which he achieved in his rookie season in 2013 with the New York Jets.

Don't expect Smith to look like Lamar Jackson on the field, but after this performance, he's eager to run a little more than he has in the past.

“I want to continue doing that. “I want to continue to take advantage of teams letting us play man and not putting a (QB) spy out there,” Smith told reporters Tuesday. “If they don’t maintain their rush lanes and I can go out there and get some extra yards, then I think that helps our offense.”

“It also puts a little more strain on the (defensive) coordinators and their goals. But yeah, my game doesn't revolve around that, but I always have. I tend to pick my spots and when to do it. But if there's a lead, I'll go.

The Seahawks know they need to get their running game going, as Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet combined for a paltry 30 yards against the Giants. But even if or when they get rolling, seeing Smith put something on the floor is always a welcome sight.
