The New York Knicks have signed former Northwestern star Boo Buie to an Exhibit 10 contract, bringing the two-time All-Big Ten guard into training camp, the franchise announced Monday.

Buie, NU's all-time leading scorer with 2,187 points in five seasons, comes to the Knicks after a Summer League stint with the Phoenix Suns, where he averaged 9.0 points, 2.0 assists and 1.4 rebounds in five games achieved.

Boo went undrafted in June and was expected to sign a similar ex-10 contract with the Suns for their own training camp, but the deal was never finalized.

His stellar play in college didn't quite catch the attention of NBA teams as they all passed up spending a draft pick on him, but in his senior year he averaged a solid 19.0 points, 5.0 assists and 1, 4 steals per game at Northwestern.

Buie finished his final collegiate season earning a spot on the First Team All-Big Ten for the second time in his amateur career.

Buie's calling cards are his efficient shooting – 43.8% from the field, 43.4% from three-point range and 85.8% from the free throw line – and his defensive skills, which led Northwestern to back-to-back March Madness appearances .

Boo also received the 2024 Lefty Driesell Defensive Player of the Year award last April.

The Exhibit 10 contract Buie signed is a one-year, non-guaranteed contract designed to get him into training camp and give him the potential to earn a spot on the full roster. If the unexpected happens and Buie somehow convinces Thibs and the team that he is worth a real deal, the Knicks could convert the deal to a two-way contract that allows him to split time between the NBA and their G- league partner, the Westchester Knicks.

If Buie is released but remains with the G League team for at least 60 days, Buie would be eligible for a bonus of up to $77.5K, according to HoopsRumors.

Buie's addition helps bolster the Knicks' depth at the guard position, but feels more like a warm body getting reps in the team's gym than someone who has a solid chance of making the final roster to crack, even if it is a two-sided, insignificant matter.

He's a defensive dog, so from a training and Thibs fitness standpoint, it made sense for the Knicks to bring him in and keep him around for a few weeks. We'll have to wait and see if we can actually watch him get minutes in real games (fake preseason).
