Sustaining long offensive attacks with positive results at the start of the game

QB Deshaun Watson is averaging just over 70 yards, or 30, in the first half of the season^Th-most in the NFL.

The Browns have consistently struggled to get the offense going in the first half of games, as they average just over seven points in the first half this season.

Developing a passing attack early in the game will likely combat some of the offensive issues that Cleveland struggled with in the first half of the game.

“It comes down to execution and that’s what matters,” offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey said. “We just have to make sure we coach it, we have to make sure we put our guys in the right spots and that we go out and execute everything from top to bottom.”

The struggle to stay healthy on the offensive line has been a major contributor to Watson's difficulty moving the ball downfield. Watson is a quarterback who often tries to make plays, whether with his arm or his feet. For the five offensive linemen on the field Sunday, the ability to improvise will be important.

“When you have a guy who is mobile and can make a guy miss in the pocket and extend things like that, it makes it a little difficult for the guys up front,” Dorsey said. “There are definitely some things that these guys learn and kind of address with this style of play. But there's also an instinctive level that I think the guys at the top have a feel for that has been seen to help with some of those things too.”

Watson said he wanted to place a focus in practice in the first three weeks on continuing to build chemistry with the receiving corps. His completion rate of 57.8 percent ranks 28th^Th among NFL quarterbacks.

“Just continue to stay on the same page with the receivers,” Watson said. “To the normal eye of a fan it might look like a pass was misplaced or something like that. “I'm the type of player and quarterback that I can adapt and make every throw regardless of whether we don't have the ball at the time.” But I think in certain situations the biggest thing is if that's a little bit of extra film work, additional walk-throughs, just a little bit better communication, all of those things.
