David Ortiz weighs in on whether or not Pete Rose should be inducted into the Hall of Fame

The death of baseball star Pete Rose has reignited debate over whether or not he should be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, despite being given a lifetime ban for gambling.

Now Boston Red Sox and Fox Sports broadcaster great David Ortiz is giving his opinion, and — spoiler alert — it's the same opinion held by pretty much everyone except those who actually make it and get Rose into the Hall of Fame can record.

TMZ Sports asked Ortiz his opinion on the matter while the longtime big league slugger and Hall of Famer stood outside the terminal at LAX (which, by the way, is nothing special given how many bullets TMZ has collected over the years). I'm just posting outside the airport?) and Big Papi was firmly on the side of those who believe Rose's enshrinement in Cooperstown is overdue.

“I thought he should have been in the Hall of Fame a long time ago,” Ortiz said.

I agree with Big Papi. It seems like Major League Baseball has a job to do and that is to make sure Pete Rose is inducted into the Hall of Fame before it's too late for him to be there in person.

Especially as the sports betting landscape has completely evolved in the last few years, it's crazy not to have the best hitter the game has ever seen in the Hall of Fame.

Ortiz acknowledged that Rose made some mistakes, but said that sometimes there have to be exceptions.

“Mistakes are mistakes,” the former Red Sox star said. “But sometimes there are exceptions to the rules, you know what I mean? And he is unique.”

Big Daddy gets it. I'm sure more and more big names will say similar things until public pressure is so great that MLB has to posthumously induct Rose into the Hall of Fame.
