Amazon MGM Studios is not moving forward with the Untitled J. Edgar project, one of the projects Bosch Spin-offs developed in the studio. In the meantime, Amazon Freevee is making no progress Who is the boss? Sequel with Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano, who was in the works at the streamer.

The “Untitled J. Edgar” project was one of two Bosch Spin-offs announced as being in development at Amazon MGM in February 2023. The other, about Detective Renée Ballard, was picked up to series earlier this year with Maggie Q in the lead role.

Larry Andries (Blue blood) wrote the script for the J. Edgar spinoff, which he executive produced with Michael Connelly, author of the Harry Bosch book series. Andries was charged with six counts of sexual assault in March.

The J. Edgar spin-off would follow Harry Bosch's (Titus Welliver) former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, as he is recruited for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. In this glamorous city, he is forced to balance his new life with the city's dark underbelly while being haunted by his mysterious past.

Jamie Hector, who played the role of Edgar alongside Welliver Boschwas set to reprise his role in the potential spin-off, which was also executive produced by Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate and co-executive produced by Jasmine Russ on behalf of Fabel Entertainment.

Amazon's Bosch Universe, which began in 2014 with the long-running Mothership series, currently consists of Bosch: legacy, starring Welliver and the untitled drama by Renée Ballard. Bosch: Legacy is set to end with the upcoming third season, which will introduce Q's Ballard.

The late Norman Lear is the executive producer Who is the boss? Follow-up, written/executive produced by One day at a time Co-creator/executive producer/co-showrunner Mike Royce and co-executive producer Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz founded Freevee in 2022.

It comes from Sony Pictures Television, which owns the rights to the original series and has been working on the sequel since 2020. Although it's not currently available on other platforms, the project remains alive at the studio, sources said.

The sequel is set 30 years after the events of the original series and focuses on former Major League Baseball player and retired housekeeper Tony Micelli (Danza) and his relationship with his daughter Samantha (Milano). She is now a single mother and lives in the family home.

Lear and his former producing partner Brent Miller of Act III Productions and Dan Farah of Farah Films executive produced the sequel, along with Danza, Milano, Royce and Muñoz-Liebowitz.
