Deuce Knight is leaving Notre Dame football and heading to Auburn

Lucedale (Miss.) quarterback from George County Deuce Knight has announced that he has switched his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn. He was committed to the Fighting Irish for over a full year, but things progressed quickly between him and the Tigers and he decided to transfer to Auburn.

Knight visited Auburn in late July, making it clear the four-star prospect was serious about changing his pledge. He visited the Tigers for four of their first five home games of the season.

The 6-4.5, 208-pounder was Notre Dame's highest-ranked player in the 2025 class. He is the No. 36 overall player and No. 7 quarterback according to the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.

According to his On3 profile, Knight visited Notre Dame 10 times, but even that number doesn't justify how much time he spent in South Bend. In June 2024, On3 reported only two initial visits for him, but he spent much of the month in the city.

Knight was a vocal public recruiter for the Irish. On July 20, Knight said on his Instagram page, “It's not over yet,” referring to him and ND continuing their pursuit of the Las Vegas Bishop Gorman administrator Derek Meadowsa longtime target who announced his commitment to LSU that day. The situation changed quickly, from Knight recruiting for Notre Dame to a permanent guard.

During a telephone interview on July 8, Knight discussed his commitment status.

“I’ve always been solid,” Knight said. “Like I said, at the end of the day I feel like it’s business, so I don’t want to close anything down. But I'm still going to Notre Dame.

“I’m still talking to Ole Miss and have been talking to Auburn lately, but I don’t have any visits scheduled,” he said.

Notre Dame is expected to look for a new quarterback to replace Knight, but the timeline has not yet been determined.

Knight played in 10 games as a junior – three with Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy and seven with Lucedale (Miss.) George County. He began the year at Volunteer State, where he threw for 627 yards and 2 touchdowns on 57 of 108 attempts, along with 35 carries for 154 yards and 3 scores.

After transferring back to George County, Knight completed 84 of 157 passes for 1,420 yards with 15 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He had 340 rushing yards with 8 scores on 64 carries.

During his second season of football, Knight completed 111 of 174 passes for 1,780 yards with 11 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He also had 488 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 54 carries.

Knight is the fifth player to decommit from the Irish this cycle, joining tight end Nate RobertsEDGE CJ MayWide receivers Shaun Terry and security Ivan Taylor. The Irish still have 22 verbal commitments, including six top-150 prospects.
