The New York Jets (2-4) have had a knack for shocking the football world in recent weeks.

After firing head coach Robert Saleh and hours after a 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills (4-2) on “Monday Night Football,” the Jets acquired All-Pro wide receiver Davante in a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders Adams traded.

There's a lot to break down with a blockbuster deal like this.

Here are eight thoughts on the Jets' deal for Adams.

Aaron definitely has a certain appeal…

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is known to have some grit…that pretty much backs him up. Obviously, Rodgers wanted his old buddy from the Green Bay Packers in Adams. The Jets got him.

Is there a strange man?

While the Adams supplement is exciting for almost everyone, it's not. Someone is now going to see less playing time in the Jets offense. Garrett Wilson will no longer be the No. 1 receiver, but he will play. Allen Lazard had a knack for getting into the end zone, so he has a spot.

According to a report from Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, it looks like it will be Mike Williams, but we'll find out:

Does Adams still have it?

Adams is absolutely a talent. That's why the Jets got him (along with Rodgers' wishes). He's a multiple-time All-Pro for a reason. However, he is 32 years old in December.

Adams had 103 catches for 1,144 yards with eight touchdowns last year on an underperforming Las Vegas Raiders team. Age is still undefeated. Ask Rodgers. It's just something to keep in mind.

It's not too late… right?

Contract

The full details are not known, but the Jets and Adams have restructured his contract, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. His cap hit this year will be lowered, but at the start of the trade his contract was guaranteed for 2024 but not beyond that. Adams is currently projected to take a $36.25 million cap hit each year and has no guaranteed money in either season.

We'll have to see where Adams' long-term future with the Jets goes.

The compensation isn't bad

What the Jets gave up for Adams looks good for New York general manager Joe Douglas.

Adams gave the Raiders a conditional third-round pick. It could be a second-round pick, but the hurdle is so high that no one in New York will be upset if that happens. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it will only become a second-round pick if Adams is named All-Pro in 2024 or if he is on the active roster when the Jets play in the AFC Championship Game or the Super Bowl.

What does it mean for Reddick?

If they add Adams, the Jets will have to pay him. This likely means Haason Reddick's career with the Jets will be over before it begins. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Reddick was given permission to seek a trade, which isn't a shock.

Woody is totally into it

Not only did the Jets bring in Adams, but Robert Saleh was also fired as head coach. It's hard to argue: owner Woody Johnson is ready for 2024. He must agree to any such move, and Johnson did.
