49ers trade deadline: Which position should the Niners buy?

Tomorrow is a critical day. The NFL trade deadline is upon us and with the news that Christian McCaffrey, Jauan Jennings, Jonathan Feliciano and Jake Moody are all returning, the 49ers have a chance to get greedy and add to their reinforcements. Baltimore, Kansas City and even Arizona added before the deadline.

The question is: What position will the 49ers be buyers for at the deadline?

Defensive line

The 49ers lost Javon Hargrave for the season with the possibility of Hargrave returning during the playoffs. Sammy O was a revelation and Leonard Floyd stayed on as Nick Bosa's vice president. However, the 49ers have shown that they will take care of the defensive line after acquiring Randy Gregory and Chase Young by the 2023 deadline.

Available targets include Azeez Ojulari, Za'Darius Smith and former 49er Arden Key. It's unlikely the Giants will re-sign Ojulari, so moving on from the young pass rusher and recouping draft compensation makes sense. The Browns and Titans' seasons are on hold, so Smith and Key are fit. Another name to monitor is Dalvin Tomlinson. The 49ers could use his experience at defensive tackle. The same goes for Calais Campbell.

Wide receiver

Brandon Aiyuk is out for the season, but Jennings has returned and Ricky Pearsall has contributed in his two games this season. Given the draft compensation for Pearsall and Jacob Cowing, the 49ers are confident in the players in the building, but another veteran receiver isn't the worst idea.

Mike Williams, Adam Theilen and Kendrick Bourne are three names to keep an eye on. It's hard to imagine how any of the three will see the field, with Deebo Samuel, Jennings and Pearsall the top three options. Injury fever is everywhere in the NFL, so be proactive, not reactive.

When it comes to linebacker and secondary, the 49ers are seeded. Dre Greenlaw should return soon and De'Vondre Campbell will be a valuable addition. The three cornerbacks are Renardo Green, Deommodore Lenoir and Mooney Ward. New England's Jonathan Jones could be available, but the 49ers will likely look for help on defense. It's hard to argue with their confidence at other positions considering how well the draft class performed.

Which position do you think the 49ers will target? Let us know in the comments!
