49ers choose Jauan Jennings against the Chiefs

This will sting a bit. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings will not be available when the San Francisco 49ers face the Kansas City Chiefs.

He is battling a hip injury suffered in the 49ers' Week 6 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Jennings has missed every practice this week, but head coach Kyle Shanahan assures it's not too bad.

“I don’t think it’s long-term,” Shanahan said. “I'm hoping he'll be ready next week. “He was close this week so I'm hoping I can get him back next week.”

Not having Jennings active is a terrible loss. He was instrumental in the 49ers' success against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl eight months ago. Chances are he would have had almost the same impact as he did in this game.

Jennings' loss is tough but manageable. The 49ers still have a tremendous offense even without Christian McCaffrey. The good thing is that rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will be making his debut. He could end up narrowing the hole left by Jennings. It depends on his workload and how quickly he can adapt to the game.

At least he can add a lot of energy to the offense. He did that in practice this week. The 49ers were excited about his return, which has proven beneficial. His presence is like putting sticks in a flame. Pearsall has given the 49ers a welcome boost ahead of their rematch against the Chiefs.

In addition to Jennings, kickers Jake Moody (ankle) and Matthew Wright (shoulder) are also out. Defensive tackle Kevin Givens (groin) and cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. (pelvis) are questionable. So the 49ers go into Week 7 relatively healthy. That means they should have a good chance of being the first team to hand the Chiefs their first loss of the season.
