3 bold predictions for DK Metcalf in the Seahawks' Week 7 game against the Falcons

DK Metcalf got off to a fast start in the 2024 season, becoming the Seahawks' first ever receiver with three consecutive 100-yard games. Things have been difficult lately, though. Against San Francisco in Week 6, Metcalf caught less than a third (three catches) of his targets (11) for 48 yards. That's not what you want from your WR1, and it's just one of the reasons the Seahawks lost to the 49ers Thursday Night Football.

Some fans were quick to point out that DK Metcalf appeared to be responsible for Geno Smith's second of two interceptions against San Francisco. Metcalf grabbed a route to a spot where the planned route would have taken him to the football, and it was awesome. It was a young man's first career interception, and it put the nail in the coffin.

There has been a slight frustration among the Seattle fan base with DK's play so far. In some games he goes out and dominates, while in others he disappears. The inconsistency can be annoying. He also failed in two games in a row at the start of the season. I've seen tweets criticizing his strength, maturity, route running, etc. There were even calls to replace it.

On Wednesday, Mike Macdonald said of DK Metcalf: “I feel him throughout the game… his presence is definitely felt.” On Thursday, Geno Smith called Metcalf “a very special player.” Metcalf's colleagues and superiors in Seattle all believe in him and his ability to go one step further. We should expect the same from a player who has a set of tools that would make most players drool.

Metcalf currently ranks fourth in the NFL in receiving yards, so it's not all bad. Perhaps minor adjustments can help reveal him as an even more efficient passing weapon. While OC Ryan Grubb works on this, we speculate on how Dekaylin Metcalf can bounce back from his recent slumber.

Prediction 1: Instead of committing a big turnover, DK Metcalf will actually save a turnover

DK was the cause of three separate turnovers in six games… gross. I assume it approaches the mean, reverses course and saves a turnover. Geno will have a moment of weakness and will rely on DKM's jump ball ability to save him. Metcalf will then rip a sure interception out of a DB's hands. You heard it here. It will be a circus act, with DK as the strongman.

Prediction 2: The man wearing number 14 will regain his swagger and rush for 130+ yards

After the fast start mentioned above, DK has been held under 56 yards in each of the last few weeks. Although Falcons cornerback AJ Terrell is a great player with an All-Pro selection, ESPN doesn't view him as a major threat to Metcalf this week. If DK Metcalf were allowed to get into his zone and rush for 130 yards through the air, that would beat his previous season high for a game by one yard. He'll do it and burn Terrell a few times along the way, just to be safe.

Prediction 3: DK will be seen smiling and laughing on the sidelines while wearing the headset

When a team loses, any negative emotion or interaction can be amplified by the media. Last week, camera crews filmed an excited Metcalf yelling a NSFW phrase into offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb's headsets. He seemed frustrated with the lack of downfield shots.

We're betting that DK Metcalf will be seen on the sidelines this week, smiling through the headset and happily chatting with Ryan Grubb. They say that winning in football cures everything. Metcalf and the Seattle Seahawks will try to drink from this magical elixir along the way, but hope they have enough firepower to go home smiling.
