2 injured in two separate shootings within an hour near Legion Field

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Two people were shot at two different locations within an hour of each other in Birmingham Friday afternoon, according to Birmingham police.

At approximately 2:19 p.m., Birmingham police said they responded to a call of a person shot in the 200 block of 8th Avenue West.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Birmingham police say the preliminary investigation indicates that a physical altercation occurred between the victim and the suspect, after which the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

There were numerous officers already in the area, allowing Birmingham Police to respond quickly to the scene and take the suspect into custody without incident.

Birmingham police say the incident did not occur on the grounds of Legion Field.

Approximately an hour later at 3:18 p.m., Birmingham Police were called to the 800 block of 7th St W for a report that a person had been shot inside a home.

The person shot in the second incident is believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Birmingham police say there are no suspects in custody in the second shooting.

BPD Sergeant LaQuitta Wade tells WBRC there is no connection between the two shootings.

Sergeant Wade also confirmed that these incidents were unrelated Magic City Classic events.
